If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter please contact us using our Contact form or show up at one of the Wednesday night meetings and talk to the Chief.
What does it take become a volunteer?
- Be declared physically fit by a physician. The Fire Department will pay for your physical based on current Labor & Industries rate schedules. If your doctor will not accept our pay scale, or if you would just prefer to pay the doctor bill yourself, the fire department will reimburse you for the cost of the visit alter you have turned in a proper receipt to the secretary.
- Receive First Aid and CPR training. This will also be paid for by the Fire Department. Classes will be periodically set up to try and accommodate all fire fighters.
- Pass a 6 month probationary period, after which time you will be outfitted with firefighting gear, at no cost to you.
Training is offered as it becomes available. Having a red card means you have attended the DNR training class on bush and wildfires. Once or twice a year a ‘burn to learn’ scenario is offered at a location in the Gorge. Other training, including training videos, will be conducted by the Fire Chief or training officer on an as needed basis. Firemen's meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 7 P M. The first Wednesday meetings is for practice, the next is a business meeting. Firefighters are required to have 24 hrs of training per year. That is why we have a practice meeting on the first Wednesday of every month. Each firefighter receives $3.00 for every practice meeting and $1.00 for every business meeting attended, payable before April of the following year. Firefighters are automatically put on a pension and disability plan that is paid for by the department if you attend at least 1/2 of the yearly meetings. Lf you do not attend 1/2 of the yearly meetings and wish to continue the pension plan, you will either be required to pay $30.00/yr., or you will need to make up your time missed. After 25 years of service you will be eligible for a pension of approximately $300.00/month. Disability is rated on a scale similar to that of L&I Thank you for your interest in helping your community and yourself |
