The Underwood Fire Department was founded in 1972. The first truck used was an American LeFrance that was donated by Mr George Baker.
The Department consists of it‘s volunteers, a vice president, a president, and a Fire Chief. The preceding positions are voted in by the volunteers. Monetary decisions are made by the 3 member Board of Local Fire Commissioners and the Fire Chief. The Fire Commissioners serve a 6 year term and are voted in at regular county elections. Taxes to run the fire dept. are collected and maintained by Skamania County.
Fire Commissioners are: Jerry Grove, John Hardham, and Rich Potter
Fire Chief is: Eric Ziegler
